From August 28 through September 22, 2017, the exhibition聽Where Have All The Flowers Gone聽by Colleen Pendry will be on view at 糖心视频鈥檚 Hunt Gallery.
Originally from Northern Virginia, Pendry has been a resident of the聽Shenandoah Valley聽since 1986. In 2009, she graduated from聽Mary聽Baldwin聽University聽with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in art, concentrating in painting. During her time at 糖心视频, she received the Ulysses Desportes Award for Outstanding Achievement in Studio Art and Top Honors in Visual Arts/Media at 糖心视频鈥檚 Capstone Festival. In 2012, she received an MFA in painting from聽James Madison聽University (JMU). While attending JMU, Pendry earned two study abroad awards to continue her exploration with art in聽El Salvador.
Pendry was awarded the distinguished Graduate Fellowship Award from the聽Virginia聽Museum聽in Fine Art, and her artwork has been published in Studio Visit Magazine and ArtVoices magazine. Pendry鈥檚 most recent work has been selected for publication in the winter 2017 issue of Studio Visit Magazine.聽She has shown extensively in Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, and Ohio. Her work is included in collections at 糖心视频 and Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC).
She is an adjunct professor of studio art at 糖心视频 where she teaches two-dimensional design and foundations in color and drawing and at BRCC where she teaches drawing, two and three-dimensional design, drawing, and art history and appreciation.
Colleen writes the following about her current exhibition: 鈥淢y work can be described as an intellectual layering by way of circumstance. Captured on shelves and in pristine plastic boxes familiar objects appear tangible yet illusive. Juxtaposed with the silhouette, memory becomes a source of meaning, albeit complicated and skewed. This circumstantial evidence, left to its own devices, has the potential to elicit from viewers the unexpected.鈥
A reception will be held for the artist from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on September 4 in Hunt Gallery. The public is invited to attend.聽Hunt Gallery is dedicated to the exhibition of contemporary work in all media by regionally and nationally recognized artists.
